World-wide historical and battlefield tours
Welcome to our 2010 battlefield tours, military history tours and historical tours programme. Within this web site you will find 15 stimulating and thought provoking tours led by some of the foremost experts in the military history field. Our battlefield tours guides include such luminaries as Gordon Corrigan, James Holland, Jeremy Black and Digby Smith, to name just a few.
Our battlefield tours programme has been devised by people who not only have a passion for military history tours, but have an eye for the ground and are great raconteurs who can bring a mundane wheat field or a barren wasteland to life before your very eyes and place you on the battlefield in the heart of battle. Understanding and appreciating history must go beyond the written word. The nearest that one can get to viewing historical events is standing in the place of the eyewitness to put their account in to the context of the geography, the terrain, other witnesses and historical facts and accounts. And sharing and debating the tour experience with others who might draw contrary conclusions from the day's exploration over dinner or in the bar is a tremendous way to end the day. Historians can postulate events to their hearts content, but if they haven't seen where the battle occurred, they can only draw a limited conclusion. As the Duke of Wellington once wrote, ‘the history of a battle is not unlike the history of a ball. Some individuals may recollect all the little events of which the great result is the battle won or lost, but no individual can recollect the order in which, or the exact moment at which, they occurred, which makes all the difference as to their value or importance.’ But seeing the ground where they occurred puts them in to greater perspective.
We hope that you will find the small group ethos of our historical tours appealing, and appreciate the many benefits that such a philosophy accrues such as greater personal attention both during your battlefield tours and in all your dealings with us, more personal time with your lecturer and less time spent waiting for others, well selected hotels and restaurants with character and a good location. In order to achieve this we guarantee that the size of each tour group will never exceed 20 participants.
